Portugal boss has no regrets choosing Ronaldo bench ahead of World Cup quarter-final elimination.
Fernando Santos, Portugal national team manager insists he has no regrets over the decision to drop Cristiano Ronaldo as a substitute in their World Cup quarter-final defeat to Morocco.
The 37-year-old star was brought on in the 50th minute of the game. After the team were trailing from the first half. He was unable to help the team escape from defeat. And Santos insists he has no regrets about his decision.
“I don’t regret choosing him to sit on the bench. I chose a team that performed well in the last game against Switzerland. And there’s no reason to change teams. It’s a tactical decision. It’s one of the hardest decisions I’ve made, but I don’t think it through my heart. I used the ideas in my head to choose it. It doesn’t mean that Ronaldo is no longer a great player. There is nothing to said about that.”
